How We Support Your Child’s Sight
Eye exams are the foundation of all great eye care. They allow us to monitor your child’s vision development and overall eye health. Our friendly staff stays by your child’s side during every step of the exam to make sure they feel relaxed and engaged.
During the exam, we review your child’s health history, test their visual acuity, and check for early signs of eye conditions or diseases. If your child needs glasses, they’ll get to choose from a wide selection of fun, durable frames designed just for kids.
Signs Your Child May Have a Vision Problem
Young children may not always realize or communicate vision difficulties. Watch for behaviors like:
- Trouble reading or sitting close to the front of the class
- Frequent eye rubbing or squinting
- Tilting their head to see better
- Holding books very close
- Poor performance in school or sports
- Complaints of headaches or eye pain
If you notice any of these signs, it’s time to schedule an eye exam with our caring team..

Common Childhood Eye Conditions We Monitor
We typically recommend starting pediatric eye exams around age 6, when children enter school and rely heavily on good vision. Because their eyes change quickly during these years, regular exams help catch problems early, ensuring your child can learn, play, and grow with confidence.
We manage a variety of common childhood conditions and concerns.
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is one of the most common refractive errors children can develop.
Generally occurring as they enter school, myopia affects the quality of your child’s distance vision. Though they might not have any problems with seeing up-close objects, they could have difficulties seeing the class whiteboard, watching presentations, or playing sports.
Myopia progresses throughout childhood, sometimes up to the age of 20. Without treatment, myopia may become high myopia, an issue that could increase the risk of certain eye diseases and retinal detachment.
One way our team can help manage myopia development is by offering multifocal contact lenses, which some studies have shown to reduce myopia progression by 43%!
Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is a common eye condition many children can experience. Pink eye is generally an infection that can cause redness, watering, and mucusy discharge from the eye.
Children can contract it from other children through bacteria or a virus, but allergies and chemical exposure can also cause symptoms.
In some cases, pink eye can be treated with antibiotics, eye drops, or allergy medication. However, if chemical exposure is causing symptoms, the situation may require emergency help, so we recommend speaking to our team as soon as possible.
Amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (crossed eyes) are both eye conditions that can affect the alignment of one or both of your child’s eyes.
Both conditions typically develop before your child enters school, but they can cause serious vision problems if they aren’t addressed. If both of these conditions progress for long enough, your child’s brain may ignore images coming from their “weaker” eye, resulting in vision loss in that eye.
Treatments for these conditions can include corrective lenses or eye exercises.
The Vital Link Between Vision & Learning
Good vision is more than just seeing clearly; it’s essential for your child’s success in school and everyday life. Up. When vision problems go undetected, they can affect reading, writing, concentration, and even behavior.
Regular eye exams help us identify issues that might make learning harder for your child, such as trouble focusing, eye strain, or difficulty tracking words on a page. By catching and addressing these challenges early, we support your child’s confidence, performance, and overall development.
